On Smith Lake the word "marina" covers a lot of ground. One marina is a fuel dock and a snack counter. Another is a full dealership with a service shop and indoor storage. A third is mostly a campground with a ramp and some covered racks. Before you pick one for a slip, a storage contract or a repair, it helps to know what kinds of services exist, what to ask, and where to find businesses whose facts have actually been checked.
This guide does three things. It lists the marinas and boat-service businesses in our directory whose details have been verified, with a link to each business's profile. It adds one more marina that we could confirm from its own website but that is not yet a Smith Lake NOW profile. And it gives you a list of questions to ask before you commit, without guessing at prices or hours that only the business can tell you.
How we handled the facts. Everything described below comes from the business's own current website, which we read on October 25, 2026, and each statement is worded as "according to the business's website." We do not state fuel availability, prices, hours or phone numbers as our own claims. Those change, and the business is the authority. Where a site was silent or unclear, we say so. Businesses in the directory carry a "verified" label once their basic facts have been checked; one marina in the directory has not been verified yet and is mentioned but not linked.
Marinas with slips, storage, fuel and launches
These are the verified marinas in our directory. Browse the full set on the marinas page or in the marinas category.
[Duncan Bridge Marina](/businesses/duncan-bridge-marina), Arley. According to the business's website, it offers dry and wet storage, a beach area, a gas dock, a launch that can handle three boats at a time, a store for small items, boat rentals, and an RV park within walking distance. Its launch page says the launch is open at all hours for paying customers only, with a per-launch fee paid before launching, and describes a floating gas dock available around the clock (website checked October 25, 2026). The site says the marina sits next to Duncan Bridge in the middle of the lake.
[Duskin Point Marina](/businesses/duskin-point-marina), Jasper. According to the business's website, it is an authorized Landau dealership with new and pre-owned inventory, a ship store, a service department, a parts department, rentals and storage, including indoor boat storage. Its hours page lists a 24/7 self-service gas dock and says boat showings and sales on Saturday and Sunday are by appointment only; the store-hours section of that page was blank when we looked, so call for office hours.
[Smith Lake Marina](/businesses/smith-lake-marina), Cullman. According to the business's website, it offers online boat rentals, slip rentals (online slip booking is listed as coming soon), a dockside shop called the Sugar Shack with life jackets, snacks and drinks, and a bar and grill. The Sugar Shack section carries a "Fuel Up" heading, but the page does not say what fuel is sold, so ask. Its directions start at Interstate 65 exit 305 and follow County Road 222.
[The Lost Cove](/businesses/the-lost-cove), Crane Hill. According to the business's website, it has a covered boathouse with 16 slips, 12 personal watercraft floats, a swim pier with a water slide, a public boat launch, and ten full-hookup RV spaces. Slips and floats are leased annually, and the site says to contact the business about availability and rates. The site's footer is dated 2018, so confirm everything by phone.
[Lakeshore Inn, Restaurant and Marina](/businesses/lakeshore-inn-restaurant-marina), Double Springs. According to the business's website, the marina offers dry storage month to month and year round, a service where staff put your boat in the water filled with fuel on request, basic mechanical work such as oil changes, winterizing and washes, boat rentals, and a floating gas dock that takes credit cards around the clock, with cash accepted during business hours (website checked October 25, 2026). The same property has a 34-room waterfront hotel and a restaurant.
[Speegle's RV Park and Campground](/businesses/speegles-rv-park-campground), Crane Hill. According to the business's website, it offers RV sites, covered boat storage and a boat ramp. The site says the ramp is for RV park guests and on-site storage customers, with swipe-card access, and mentions a second ramp designed for low water.
Trident Marina, Crane Hill. Trident Marina is not yet a Smith Lake NOW business profile, but its own website describes it as a family-owned, full-service marina, home to Skiers Marine, with boat rentals, service and storage pages and several named boat brands for sale. The Visit Cullman tourism bureau describes Trident as offering slips, fuel, dining and live music. For dining, see the Grille at Trident Marina profile. Confirm fuel type, hours and storage options with Trident directly.
*Also in our directory:* Poor House Branch Marina in Jasper is listed in our directory, details not yet verified, so we do not describe it here.
Boat sales, repair and rentals
Boat sales and service. Evans Marine in Jasper says on its website that it is a certified boat dealer with Sunchaser and AlumaCraft inventory, pre-owned boats, engines, tackle, marine parts and accessories, and a service department that offers computer diagnostics for several outboard and sterndrive brands. Duskin Point and Trident, above, also sell boats and run service shops. For used boats and gear from private sellers, see the Marketplace. Our directory has no verified boat repair shops yet; browse the boat repair category and boat sales category for new listings.
Boat and watercraft rentals. Several marinas rent boats, and there are dedicated rental companies:
- Cappy's Boats in Cullman says on its website that it rents pontoons and kayaks, offers captained pontoon cruises, has a snack shop and boat detailing, and includes a boat orientation, required safety gear and a full tank of fuel with each pontoon rental.
- Squirrel's Boat Rental in Crane Hill operates from Rock Creek Marina. According to its website it rents 21- and 23-foot pontoons that hold up to 12 passengers and is open year round.
- Southern Wake Rentals in Arley says on its website that renters must be 21, that children under 8 must wear a life vest at all times, and that boats go out and return with a full tank.
- Cullman Lakeside Rentals lists personal watercraft, kayaks, tubes, paddle boards and towables on its website.
Rental companies set their own rules for age, insurance, fuel, deposits and cancellations, so read the rental agreement before you book. For the full list, see watercraft rentals and the help article on renting a pontoon.
Docks, lifts and shoreline work
Marinas keep boats; dock and lift companies make it possible to keep your own boat at home. Verified in our directory:
- Free State Boat Docks in Double Springs says on its website 'Excellence Since 1996', describes manufacturing its own docks, and links Alabama Power's dock permit page.
- BMS Marine Inc. in Jasper lists new docks, boat lifts, personal watercraft ports, dock accessories and shoreline work.
- HydroHoist of Alabama near Smith Lake Dam says it is an authorized HydroHoist dealer for boat lifts, jet ski lifts and dock lockers.
- Dock Springs in Crane Hill sells springs that cushion the load on a floating dock's anchor cables.
- Smith Lake Concierge lists dock services and a dock watch subscription among its property services.
Browse more in the dock builders category. Alabama Power, not the county, issues permits for docks, boathouses and other shoreline work on the lake, and the rules and fees are in its Smith Lake guidelines. Read our real estate guide on dock and shoreline permits and the water levels guide before you pick a dock design. This is not legal advice.
Slip, dry stack or the trailer: what to ask
A wet slip keeps your boat in the water, usually on a floating dock, so it is ready to go but sits in the water year round. Dry storage keeps the boat on land, in a rack or building, and staff launch it for you, which usually means calling ahead. Keeping a boat on a trailer at home or in a storage lot costs the least but puts the launch work on you. None of these is best in every case. Ask each marina for the actual terms.
Questions about storage and slips
- Is the storage a wet slip, covered slip, dry rack or outdoor lot? Is it covered or enclosed?
- What are the largest boat length, beam and height you accept, and does a lift or hoist limit weight?
- How much water is at my slip or ramp at winter pool? In a 2021 notice Alabama Power described Smith falling from about 510 feet toward 496 feet by mid-November, so ask about depth at both levels, not just the summer number.
- Do docks and utilities, such as shore power, change with the season?
- What is the lease term, and are annual leases the only option? What are the rate changes and waiting lists?
- What is the policy for storms, hull damage, and insurance? Does the marina require proof of insurance?
- Who has access, and when? Is there gate or camera security?
Questions about fuel
- What fuel do you sell, and when is the fuel dock open? Is it self-service by card, staffed, or both?
- If you need a specific fuel, such as ethanol-free gasoline, ask for it by name instead of assuming.
- Is there a pump-out station?
Questions about service and repair
- Do you service my engine brand, and what certifications do your technicians hold?
- How far ahead do you schedule? What is the turnaround for winterizing or spring commissioning?
- Do you work on boats you did not sell? Will you provide a written estimate?
- Where will my boat be kept while it waits for parts or repair?
Questions about rentals and launches
- Is the launch public, customers only, or members only, and is there a fee? A marina's own launch is a private business service, unlike the public ramps run by agencies.
- Do you offer day tie-ups or guest docking if I arrive by boat for lunch?
Why lake level matters to every marina
Smith Lake is managed to fall in the second half of the year. Alabama Power says Smith begins lowering on July 1 and ends lowering on November 30. Floating docks follow the water, but ramps, fixed docks and shallow coves do not. A marina that is easy to reach in June may need a different approach in December. This is why asking about winter pool depth matters more than any amenity list, and why you should check the live Lake page before relying on a particular ramp or slip.
Boating rules that apply at a marina
Alabama law prohibits blocking a ramp, landing dock or slip, and prohibits operating in a way that creates a hazardous wake when entering or leaving a marina area. Children under 8 must wear a life jacket on any boat, and everyone must wear one on a personal watercraft. Our boat ramps and public access guide summarizes the main ALEA Marine Patrol rules and links the official pages.
