General public information, not medical advice. We do not say which place is right for any situation: if you are unsure, call 911 and let the dispatcher decide.
- Hospital emergency department (ER)
- Part of a hospital that also has inpatient beds and other services.
- Freestanding emergency department
- An emergency room that is not attached to a hospital building. It is an emergency department, not an urgent care clinic.
- Urgent care clinic
- Treats non-emergency illness and injury, usually with set opening hours. It is not an emergency room.
- Hospital site without a public ER
- Some hospital sites offer only outpatient services. A site is listed this way only when an official source confirms it.
24/7 appears on a card only when the facility's own official page says it is open around the clock. When a source gives no hours, the card says so rather than guessing.
